The Oerlikon Skyshield® Air Defence System assures maximum protection of stationary assets and troop concentrations from air attack – day and night and in all weather conditions, even when subjected to sophisticated electronic countermeasures. Moreover, it can be readily configured to meet specific customer requirements. Mounted on standard ISO 1D frames, the individual system components are easily transportable by truck, aircraft, ship, rail or helicopter. For short-term missions, a truck-mounted version is available which can be deployed without unloading the system from the truck. Offering maximum flexibility, this option is particularly useful when assets have to be protected for brief periods. Combining high performance with fast reaction times, massive firepower and maximum tactical and strategic mobility, the Oerlikon Skyshield® is an extremely cost-effective and versatile air defence solution.
Sensors: Its multiple beam search antenna has scan range of up to +70° and down to -5° during each revolution. Target detection with track-while-scan and advanced threat evaluation, followed by target handover to the tracking sensors, are all fully automatic. The multi-sensor tracking unit combines radar, a TV/IR camera and a laser rangefinder module with high sensor dynamics for interference-free high-precision tracking. The main subsystems, including the radar transmitter, signal processor, and power generator, are integrated into the standard ISO 1D frame (2.44m x 3.00m) of the sensor unit.
Effectors: Extremely accurate and exceptionally reliable, Rheinmetall Air Defence’s single-barrel, computer-controlled 35mm. Oerlikon Revolver Gun® Mk2 is the last word in modern gun-based air defence. It has a maximum rate of fire of 1,000 rounds per minute. The Oerlikon Revolver Gun® Mk2 is mounted on an extremely robust ISO 1D-compatible platform (2.44m x 3.00m).
Mobility: All the main units are designed with identical ISO 1D standard-size base frames (2.44mx3.00m), fitted with ISO-corners, fork lift slots and shackles for handling and transport.
Firepower: A short burst of 35mm Ahead ammunition produces continuous saturation of the target zone, creating a dense cloud of lethal subprojectiles.
Networking: When deployed in the field, Oerlikon Skyshield® Air Defence Systems can be integrated as fire units into a C2 or C4ISTAR system and/or linked together to form a network. In a networked configuration, the Oerlikon Skyshield® Air Defence System can also be very effective in expeditionary warfare and domestic security scenarios, as well as in Military Operations Other Than War (MOOTW).
